Open Enrollment - Virtual Classroom

Want to participate in Linux training but have no travel budget? The Linux Foundation now offers live instructor-led virtual Linux training with all the benefits of in-person training, but without the travel time and expense.

Our Virtual Classroom program enables you to get the full benefits of our classes without having to spend the time and money required to attend an in-person classroom offering.  The material is the same as in our physical classrooms, but you can actively participate in the class from your home or office environment.

Instruction Delivery Method

Courses are delivered using a live audio conference bridge and a live Java-based virtual collaboration tool.

Students will be able to ask questions at any time to the expert Linux instructor, see the instructor's slides and terminal screen, share their terminal screen with the instructor during labs, and learn from other students' questions and issues.

The general format for the courses include a constant mix of instruction and hands-on exercises, rotating between the instruction and labs for a total of 8 hours of training each day.

The virtual live instructor-led courses have proven to be very successful with students praising the quality of instruction, interaction, and learning. It is an excellent choice for those students where instruction is not offered in person or for those who cannot afford the travel required for in-person training. View the current schedule of Linux Foundation classes here.

Hardware Requirements

The exact hardware requirements will depend on the class.  For classes which do not involve kernel work,  whatever recent Linux distribution is being used will probably be adequate.  Those which require kernel programming may have more stringent requirements. In addition, you will need a telephone connection that can be used throughout the class.  See our detailed requirements for more information.

Training Materials

All students will receive course manuals and any other required materials directly, and will also receive instructions for installing the software required for joining the virtual class and directions for how to join the session.

Because training materials will have to be shipped directly to you,  enrollment must be confirmed at least 3 weeks in advance to ensure timely delivering of course manuals. Later enrollments may be possible, but may incur extra charges for premium shipping rates or cause classes to begin without all materials being in hand.

Most classes will be offered beginning at 9:00 AM U. S. Central Time (4:00 PM Central European Time) to accomodate the largest number of students from the Americas and Europe.  By special request, we are happy to offer virtual classes in other time zones including those for Asia Pacific countries if the required minimum number of students is met.
