Updates to Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) Certification Exam Coming Soon
The Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exam will be updated on September 12, 2024 at 00:00 UTC as part of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation and Linux Foundation Training & Certification’s ongoing efforts to ensure that Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist professionals maintain their skills, knowledge and competence across a broad range of best practices for securing container-based applications and Kubernetes platforms during build, deployment and runtime. The changes reflect the latest knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud security that a candidate should possess.
Changing on September 12, 2024
The Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) domains (i.e. Cluster Setup, Cluster Hardening, etc.) will remain unchanged, however there will be updates and changes to competencies including:
- Additions
- Deletions
- Updated language
Additionally there will be changes to the percent weight for several of the domains.

When Do the Changes Take Effect?
Any Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exam taken after 12:01am UTC on September 12, 2024 (including retakes), will test on the new set of Domains and Competencies.
ALL Exams Scheduled September 12, 2024 and Beyond Effected
The changes will be in place for all exams as of 12:01am UTC on September 12, 2024. It does not matter if the exam reservation is a first attempt or a retake, nor does it matter on what date you completed the exam purchase. The only date that matters is the date you sit for the exam.
Prerequisite Change Effective Immediately!
The pre-requisite requirements to schedule the Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exam have been updated, effective immediately. In order to schedule your exam you no longer need to have an active Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) exam, you only need to have achieved your CKA at any time. Specifically:
- A Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exam can be scheduled if a Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification was achieved at any time in a candidate’s lifetime (it does NOT have to be “Active”).
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) can be a status of Achieved, Renewed or Expired in order to schedule your Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exam.
