The following is the list of requirements for On-Site Linux Training classes. If you have any questions please contact us. We are flexible and can usually work with any recent Linux distribution that you have installed. Virtualized environments are also acceptable for most courses, although we cannot guarantee detailed technical support due to the diversity of virtualization solutions.
For developer and performance tuning classes it is essential that students have root access as they will need to install software, run administrator utilities, and in kernel-related classes, compile and install customized kernels.

- x86 64-bit processor, 2 GHz or better, preferably dual core or better
- 4GB recommended
- 30 GB hard disk space
- Video card capable of at least 1024×768
- 100 MB ethernet NIC (or better)
- USB 2 port
For all classes, the instructor (and attendees) must have the ability to install software on the classroom computers.
The instructor may use their own laptop or a machine provided by you, in which case it should have the same specifications as the student machines.
There should also be an Internet connection available for the instructor to connect a laptop in close proximity to the instructor machine.
For many classes wireless network access is sufficient. Please consult with our staff about the particular needs for your class.
Connection to the Internet improves class quality but is not mandatory when institutional policy makes it unavailable. In this case, make sure we know well in advance so the instructor can prepare properly for the lack of internet.
All routers and switches should be 100 MB or better.
Capable of at least 1024×768 resolution.
There should also be a white board and/or easel for the instructor to draw figures, etc.
Generally, any recent Linux distribution should be fine. If you are using pre-installed Linux laptops, please let us know in advance so we can make sure the distribution is appropriate. If you do not have Linux installed yet, the cleanest method is to wipe the entire hard disk and do a fresh installation of a 64-bit Enterprise Linux distribution. Again, just let us know which distribution is chosen.
It is also possible to perform certain classes* using virtualized machines, in which case memory and processor requirements tend to be more robust. We can provide pre-built images that will work with either the VMware family of products (including VMware Workstation Player) or with Oracle’s Virtual Box.
*Please note that LF426 Linux Performance Tuning requires a native install of CentOS 6.3, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, or openSUSE 12.2.

On-site situations are always unique and it is important to discuss issues with us well in advance to make sure all needs are understood and fulfilled with ease.
As long as the classroom hardware is of recent vintage, the requirements are modest. There must be a recent Linux distribution installed, a working network, a decent projection device, adequate whiteboards/easels, etc.
