CARE Program Expansion: CKS Now Extends CKA

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) has announced an important update to the CARE (Certification Advancement & Recertification Experience) Program. Effective June 18, 2026, professionals who pass or recertify the Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) exam will automatically reinstate or extend their Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification.
This change recognizes the natural progression from Kubernetes administration to Kubernetes security and reduces the burden of managing multiple certification renewal cycles. The updated policy applies whether a candidate’s CKA certification is still active or has already expired, with the CKA expiration date aligning to the newly earned or renewed CKS certification.
The enhancement builds on the CARE Program’s goal of rewarding continued skill advancement while simplifying certification maintenance for Kubernetes professionals and Kubestronauts alike.
