Get enMeshed in Your Service Mesh with a new, free course: Introduction to Istio (LFS144x)

October 25, 2022November 3rd, 2022Announcements

Service meshes are becoming a vital component of today’s technology infrastructure, and the ability to monitor, connect, and secure microservices is quickly becoming an indispensable skill sought by employers. In keeping with this trend, last month the CNCF Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) voted to accept the Istio service mesh, the most widely adopted service mesh in production, as a CNCF incubating project.

Today, the Linux Foundation Training & Certification is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new, online, self-paced course titled Introduction to Istio (LFS144x) on the edX platform. This course is designed for anyone who wishes to build on their knowledge of Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes to learn how to install and configure a service mesh and to understand the benefits of deploying and running distributed applications in a service mesh environment.

Introduction to Istio (LFS144x) is intended for application developers, systems operators, and security professionals who already have familiarity and experience with Kubernetes and who wish to take their first steps towards learning and understanding Istio. The curriculum features video content, hands-on labs & assignments, and discussion forums to support your learning. As you progress through the course, you’ll have the chance to practice common scenarios, including installing Istio, deploying applications to the mesh, monitoring applications, configuring traffic management, including ingress, and applying security policies.

Enrollment is now open on edX and free to all. While the course is free and accessible for ten weeks after registration, you may also opt to pay for a certificate of completion. Visit the course enrollment page to learn more about what is covered in the curriculum and how it can benefit you and your organization.

Introduction to Istio (LFS144x) course authors, Peter Jausovec and Eitan Suez, are content engineers at Tetrate and run Tetrate Academy.

Jausovec has more than a decade of experience in the field of software development and tech, in various roles such as QA (test), software engineering, and leading tech teams. He’s been working in the cloud-native space for the past couple of years and delivering talks and workshops around the world. He’s authored and co-authored a couple of books, the latest being Cloud-Native: Using Containers, Functions, and Data to Build Next-Generation Applications.

Suez develops technical content and breaks down technical topics for audiences large and small. At Tetrate, Suez runs workshops, customer training, and a series of live broadcasts centered around Service Mesh called “Tetrate Tech Talks.” He has many years of experience as a software developer and spent four seasons as a speaker on the “No Fluff Just Stuff” conference tour. His first open-source project dates back to 2002, when he developed a database-backed Java API documentation system, which achieved some measure of notoriety after being written up on java.sun.com and later adopted by dzone.com.
