Build and Validate Your Model Context Protocol Knowledge
The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) and Linux Foundation Education have launched the Model Context Protocol Associate (MCPA) certification, giving practitioners a vendor-neutral way to measure their knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP) and earn recognition for their skills.
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) provides a standardized way to connect AI agents to external tools and data sources, eliminating the need for custom glue code. As more organizations build agentic AI systems using MCP, they need developers who understand how the protocol works and the considerations involved in implementing it responsibly. MCPA provides a shared benchmark for demonstrating that foundational knowledge.
What MCPA Covers
The MCPA exam is a 90-minute multiple choice exam built around the latest MCP specification and assesses your understanding of key MCP concepts, including:
- MCP architecture, including how hosts, clients, and servers work together
- Interaction lifecycles and core protocol concepts
- Permissions and trust boundaries that govern access and interactions
- Security and governance considerations for MCP-based systems
Why Earn the MCPA Certification?
Earning the MCPA gives you a portable, recognized standard to showcase your expertise in agentic architecture. It proves to employers that you understand how to connect AI models safely across any platform without risking security or compliance.
“Developers are taking on new responsibilities as they build agentic systems, and the decisions they make about access and permissions affect what those agents can do. MCPA gives developers a way to earn recognition for the knowledge needed to make those decisions,” said Angie Jones, VP of Developer Experience, Agentic AI Foundation.
