SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 27, 2024) – Cloud Native Computing Foundation along with Linux Foundation Training & Certification have launched the Kubernetes and Cloud Native Security Associate (KCSA) certification.

“Security within the cloud native ecosystem can be a deeply complex topic at scale. Cloud native is fast becoming ubiquitous, and the reality of the situation is the next cloud security breach is unfortunately not a matter of if, but when,” said Chris Aniszczyk, CTO CNCF. “Finding efficient and effective security professionals is more important than ever for organizations. The KCSA certification will help pre-professionals and developers with an interest in security demonstrate a solid foundation of cloud native security skills and best practices.”

The KCSA certification is designed for new IT professionals interested in advancing their careers through a demonstrated understanding of foundational knowledge and skills of security technologies in the cloud native ecosystem. Those who earn the certification demonstrate that they understand the baseline security configuration of Kubernetes clusters and can meet compliance objectives, including the ability to: harden security controls; test and monitor the security; and participate in assessing security threats and vulnerabilities.

“The demand for cloud native skills continues to grow,” said Clyde Seepersad, SVP, General Manager, Training & Certification, Linux Foundation. “The KCSA is an excellent career starting point for new professionals and a smart proofpoint for organizations looking to hire cloud native professionals who understand the importance of cloud and Kubernetes security.”

The 90-minute, multiple-choice KCSA exam’s domains are:

  • Cloud Native Security – 14 percent
  • Kubernetes Cluster Component Security – 22 percent
  • Kubernetes Security Fundamentals – 22 percent
  • Kubernetes Threat Model – 16 percent
  • Platform Security – 16 percent
  • Compliance and Security Frameworks – 10 percent

Those who successfully complete the Kubernetes and Cloud Native Security Associate (KCSA) certification exam receive a certificate as well as a digital badge.
