Hacking the Workforce and Linux Foundation Training & Certification Offer Cybersecurity Training Scholarships

December 15, 2021Announcements

We’re proud to announce that we are partnering with Hacking the Workforce, an organization which aims to increase the overall well-being including mental health, physical health, and economic health of Black LGBTQ members in the field of cybersecurity, and more broadly tech. The Linux Foundation recognizes the importance of creating a safer, more inclusive workforce and society for Black LGBTQ people in the cybersecurity profession, by providing scholarships  to promising individuals to help learn the skills they need to succeed in a cybersecurity career.

Linux Foundation Training & Certification will provide 20 scholarships for its Linux Security Fundamentals (LFS216) online training course, which teaches participants to assess their current security needs, evaluate current security readiness and implement security options as required. As cloud technologies are in especially high demand right now, and the rate of attacks on cloud systems continues to grow, an additional 10 scholarships will be awarded for a cloud security training and certification program that includes:

Hacking the Workforce will accept applications for the 30 scholarships from their community, and choose recipients based on merit and need.

Linux Foundation Training & Certification offers dozens of training courses and certification exams around open source technologies that serve as the infrastructure for the modern world. From Linux which powers all the world’s supercomputers and the vast majority of mobile phones and the internet itself, to Node.js which is one of the most popular frameworks for developing web applications, to Kubernetes which has become essential to anyone working with cloud systems, learning these technologies can open countless doors to lucrative career opportunities.

“Security concerns are top of mind for organizations creating and using modern technology, but there is a severe lack of qualified talent in the industry, which is why it is so important to bring more individuals into the cybersecurity space,” said Linux Foundation SVP & GM of Training & Certification Clyde Seepersad. “We are proud to work with Hacking the Workforce to bring quality cybersecurity training to groups who have been historically underrepresented in the field. By increasing the diversity of voices and experiences in the open source security community, we can bring new ideas and perspectives to help improve security for everyone.”

About Hacking the Workforce: At Hacking the Workforce, we believe inclusive technology drives equality, prosperity, and safety for everybody. Our mission is to end systemic oppression through empowerment, upward economic mobility, and promoting visibility and inclusion for marginalized communities in tech. We bring together a powerful network of practitioners and allies dedicated to ending systemic injustices against black members of the LGBTQ community, not only in information security, but throughout society.

Those interested in applying for a Hacking the Workforce/Linux Foundation scholarship can do so here. Linux Foundation Training & Certification also offers a free, three-course Secure Software Development Fundamentals online training program open to anyone on the edX learning platform.
